Ken Conger – Two Seasons in Alaska.

I was mesmerized at the breathtaking photos and compelling stories this week. Ken Conger stopped by to share his wildlife photography experience with the group. As a former park ranger stationed in Alaska, Ken has always had a passion for wildlife and it really shows in his photography. He told us stories of how scared bears away as a park ranger waving his big hat and other stories about how he got his first “good” camera. I should drop my camera in the water too… too funny. Every picture he showed us was not only beautiful; it also had a great story of how he had taken the shot. My personal favorite was the story about the red fox. He told us of how he pulled off the road in the middle of nowhere, when he spotted it. It was a brilliant red fox and it didn’t even acknowledge his presence, it was too busy hunting. Ken studied the fox… how he would get the shot?  The fox stopped… then kept going… then stopped again… it jumped… darn, missed the shot. It was listening for mice under the snow Ken concluded. As he followed it for miles, he noticed a pattern emerging, setup his camera, composed the shot and got it! It was the most stunning shot of a fox jumping right before nose diving into 20+ inches of snow.  Kens dedication to photography and the love for the outdoors really shows in every image he takes. Thanks Ken for such a great presentation! You inspired all of us at the Hampton Roads Digital Photography Club.
