Sunrise photo-shoot Outlook Beach, Fort Monroe, VA   By Kay Reid

The meet-up reminder text message came through at 3am on Sunday morning.  Why? It’s the Second Sunday Sunrise photoshoot.  Back to sleep until 5am, then up and away.  First light is at 5:31 am and sunrise at 6:31 am.

I pull into the parking lot and they are here.  The photogs of HRDPC are here with their gear to capture the horizon. Photogs love the golden hour, it is the first and last hour of sunlight during the day, when a specific photographic effect is achieved due to the quality of the light(softer light, warmer hues, nonexistent shadows) according to Wikipedia.

The photogs of HRDPC are at Outlook Beach on Fort Monroe to capture the Sunrise and the surrounding area.   This is my second sunrise shoot with the group but I have been shooting sunrises for years.  There is a spiritual feeling to meeting the day at Sunrise.  The cool blues meeting the soft yellows, oranges, and golds on the horizon.  The water meeting the sky.  To capture it all through my lens is my goal for the morning.

Conversations are varied; What to shoot, what lens are you using, try it at f11 and 1/60, what does it look like, what is next,  etc.  I was able to set up a photo play date for later in the week.

Looking at the photos from the shoot that are posted on Meetup, Facebook,  Google+, ; you get a feel for the diversity within the group. Diversity that allows each of us to grow as photographers painting with light.sunrisekimkays shot
